Interview with Community Member, Caroline Harton

Our group interviewed community member, Caroline Harton. Caroline Harton has been a member of the Bush Hills neighborhood for many years. She has seen Bush Hills develop over time and has been very involved in the community. In our interview, she recalls a time where her daughter would walk home from school and their neighbors would check in on her daughter to make sure she got home safe. Mrs. Harton said Bush Hills is much different now. She is not close to as many of her neighbors and she now lives next to a blighted house and across the street from another blighted house. Mrs. Harton expressed how much she loves Bush Hills, but she wishes the city did more to keep up city-owned land. Mrs. Harton said that when she originally moved to Bush Hills that the city-owned land was beautiful and very kept up. Now, however, the city does not take care of the neighborhood. She said, unlike they used to, the city no longer cut the trees back or mow the lawn on city-owned land, which results in the property looking unsightly. Mrs. Harton spoke a lot about how she hopes to see the blighted houses to be fixed up to their original beauty and for her neighborhood to return to its abundant community.
